The new board was inaugurated and a new FGC President, Nancy Martin, was elected by her fellow members to succeed Ruth Evans as the new President.

Ruth Evans presented the new President Nancy Martin with a gavel and a rose decorated with a purple ribbon. Evans described the symbolism:

“This gavel is given to you as a symbol of your authority. Use it wisely, courteously and with justice to all. … I present you with this rose tied with a purple ribbon. Purple symbolizes royalty, dignity, distinction, leadership and honor.”

Estelle Gooltz, FGC’s new Treasurer received from Minal Akkad a gift:a rose tied with a gold ribbon to symbolize “brilliance and prosperity. It is presented to express confidence in your ability.”

Doris Weinberg, FGC’s new Corresponding Secretary received from Betsy Swartz a rose, tied with a white ribbon, to symbolize “the whiteness of the pages on which you will write, and the thoughtful selection of the words you will send forth.”

Pam Keeney and Mary Hayden were additionally inaugurated as first and second vice-presidents to Nancy Martin.

Peg Homberg & Maria Chaput, the new Recording Secretaries, also received, from Dot Moody, a rose tied with a white ribbon to symbolize the clarity of the page and “the precision of your records.”
