FGC earns blue ribbons at 2025 New England Flower Show

Congratulations to Shannon Fitzpatrick for her blue-ribbon Mono-Botanic Design at the New England Fall Flower Show at Elm Bank. A Mono-Botanic Design is one that incorporates three or more parts of a plant of one family of genus. Parts may be stems, blooms, foliage, buds, and/or roots. 

Betsy Szymczak also represented our FGC (and Natick GC), and  we congratulate her for eight Horticulture entries at MassHort that earned four blues, two reds, two yellow, with Begonia grandis for propagation. Shannon also entered the horticulture competition, earning four blues, five reds, one yellow and two honorable mentions.

 

Minal Akkad and Ruth Evans participated in the show as Design judges, while Betsy also judged Horticulture.…

Framingham Garden Club Honored with Multiple Awards at GCFM Annual Meeting

We’re thrilled to share that the Framingham Garden Club proudly brought home a total of 15 awards, including three National Awards awarded specifically to FGC at the recent Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts (GCFM) annual meeting. Additionally, two additional National Awards were given for district-wide programs created by FGC members

FGC Members Win Top Honors at 2018 Tower Hill Fall Show

Three Framingham Garden Club members were awarded top honors at the prestigious 2018 Tower Hill  show, “An American Icon: The Apple.” From horticulture exhibitions to daring floral designs, this show features the best from members of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts. In keeping with Tower Hill’s historic apple orchard, each design centers on the theme of apples. 

Nancy Martin took top awards in Horticulture, winning the Grower’s Choice Award and Horticultural Excellence Award, in addition to a blue (first place) for her potted sedum collection.

Ruth Evans won blue, the Designer’s Choice Award and the Design Excellence Award in the Design Division for her stunningly innovative low profile design.…

Framingham students win garden-themed poetry contest

Two talented Framingham students, third grader Stella Cote and sixth grader Maureen O’Connell, recently won a statewide Youth Poetry Contest sponsored by the National Garden Club. O’Connell's poem Spring Returns was selected as the winner the New England Regional Poetry Competition in her age group. Her poem was one of 50 youth poets to be published in the National Garden Club’s annual publication "Down the Garden Path."

FMG Member Wins Top Design Award

Congratulations to FGC’s own Minal Akkad for winning the Cindora Goldberg award. The Goldberg award is the top design award in the Commonwealth, given annually by The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts to the most outstanding floral design created by any member of a Massachusetts garden club. Cindora Goldberg was known for her ability to continually see and create in an innovative manner. 

Creativity and innovation define Minal’s floral designs. From the three outstanding designs submitted for consideration, federation judges chose the design that was featured at the Museum of Fine Art’s “Art in Bloom” this year. For 40 years, Art in Bloom has paired art from the MFA’s collection with floral interpretations created by New England area garden club.…

Framingham Shows at the Marshfield Fair

The 150th annual Marshfield Fair on August 27, 2017 is one of the largest Agricultural fairs in New England, drawing hundreds of competitors in 4-H, arts and crafts, agricultural and horticultural events.

Framingham Garden Club’s own Ruth Evans entered her arrangement to the horticultural competition and received a score of over 90!

Ruth Evans Receives National Achievement Award

At the Annual Meeting of the Federation of Massachusetts, “The Wonders of New England”, the Central South District’s Standard Flower Show held at Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, received A National Garden Club Achievement Award # 57 for the best Standard Flower Show Staged in A Public Building.

This national award was presented to Ruth Evans, flower show chairman by the President of the National Garden Club, Inc., Nancy Hargroves at a ceremony at the Westford Regency Hotel on June 7th.

Ruth Evans also received the Violet F. MacLaren Show Schedule Award, from Betty Sanders president of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts.…

FGC Master Arranger Shines in Boston Flower Show

The Boston Flower & Garden Show transformed the Seaport World Trade Center into New England’s largest greenhouse from March 22-26, 2017. One of the highlights of the flower show is always the exciting competitions between New England’s top floral designers competing for prestigious honors awarded by credentialed judges.

This year, Framingham Garden Club was thrilled to support one of our own members, Minal Akkad, a world-class Master Arranger who also serves as President of the Boston Chapter of Ikebana International Club.
