Flora in Winter at the Worcester Art Museum showcases beautiful flower arrangements inspired by works of art. The Framingham Garden Club was represented in 2021 by two of our members with creative interpretations.

Minal Akkad interprets the biomorphic shapes of this artwork that vie for position with color and transparency by creative placement of transparent acrylic between 4 containers. Minal’s plant materials included bleached white palm, heliconium, and calla lily.

Nancy Martin’s subject was equally challenging – an Egyptian child’s mummy case. The symbolic decorations on the mummy case influenced the flowers chosen in the design. The pincushion proteas, billy boys and and crespesia represent the images of the chest plate. The golden lotus pods were the symbol of rebirth in Ancient Egypt. The palms and anthurium’s heart shaped petals were chosen for the heart ache of the death of a child. The Nile’s green waters brought the life to the land and would carry the child on her journey to the next life.
