After a two year hiatus, Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts returned in 2022 to present “Art in Bloom.” Designers from 50 area garden clubs were paired with art from across the MFA’s collections and charged with creating an interpretive floral design.

Representing Framingham Garden Club, head designer Ruth Evans, assisted by Nancy Martin, was given the challenge of interpreting a statue of Osiris, Egyptian God of the Dead. Using Sago Palm, Easter Palm, Pincushion Protea, Leucadendron, Monstera leaf and ribbon grass,  Ruth and Nancy evoked the lines and expression of their assigned piece of museum art.

Minal Akkad represented the Massachusetts Judge’s Council with her highly imaginative interpretation of the painting Il Parnasso by Cy Twombly.

Minall’s plant material (Leatherleaf fern, three colors of Anthurium, Stretzia leaves (Bird of Paradise), skelotonized green flax, and gerbera daisy), ingenuitively intertwined with clear plexiglass and blue sticks to reflect the markings in the painting.
